FACILITIES & FEATURES

The Energy Management Training Center is a unique resource for the local community, building owners, building operators, building performance contractors and energy professionals throughout the state of New York. The Center provides hands-on training opportunities with functioning demonstration heating systems and advanced building control technologies. The Center currently includes two boilers, a wireless building control lab, and several classrooms equipped with digital video and Internet access.

AEA and its partners offer a wide curriculum of technical training and career development opportunities for individuals who are interested in improving the performance of their buildings or working in this industry. The Center is also a showcase and demonstration facility for advanced building controls, metering and renewable technology, with these demonstration products also being used for training purposes.

The 12,000 sq.ft first floor facility at 105 Bruckner Blvd also houses AEA’s energy engineers, trainers, field staff, and project managers who are engaged in designing and delivering energy services not only in the Bronx, but throughout the downstate region, promoting energy efficiency, energy management and load controls, as well as comfort, health and safety in buildings.

The build-out of the boiler and heating lab at the Center is being supported by the Bronx Borough President’s office through the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation, with a grant from the Bronx Initiative for Energy and the Environment Program.

Carrión, who recently unveiled The Bronx At Work initiative in an aggressive campaign to boost the Bronx economy through job preparation and placement for Bronx residents, said "The Energy Management Training Center will provide job training and opportunities for Bronx residents. This center is an excellent example of the economic and educational development that we are attracting through our Bronx At Work Campaign.  I welcome our newest neighbor The Association for Energy Affordability Inc. to the Bronx, and look forward to working with them."

“With the support of our funding sources and partners, we believe this Center will play an important role in economic and educational development in the Bronx, and in buildings in communities throughout the region,” said AEA Executive Director David Hepinstall.  “Building owners and managers can take advantage of the new Center to improve the performance of their buildings and their staff. ”

Funding from the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR), the New York State Energy and Research Development Authority (NYSERDA), and the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) also supports curriculum development and training activity at the Center.
