    The Basics of Steam and Hydronic Heating

    This course, co-sponsored by AEA and ANHD, is geared to property managers, building maintenance staff and residents looking to understand the operation, maintenance and opportunities for efficiency improvements in steam and hydronic heating systems. These 6 half-day course sessions will provide an introduction to heating plant analysis, with hands on opportunities in AEA’s state-of-the-art heating lab.

     Learning Objectives:

    • Teach the Building Science Fundamentals so that staff has a proper background in under-standing the operation of their heating plants
    • Describe the different steam and hot water (hydronic) systems
    • Describe all the various boiler components on steam and hot water boilers
    • Discuss the different types of steam boilers currently available
    • Discuss the different types of hydronic boilers available
    • Discuss the proper installation of steam systems
    • Demonstrate how to test boilers for Combustion Efficiency
    • Describe the different types of distribution systems on steam and hydronic systems
    • Demonstrate and describe proper maintenance cycles on steam and hot water boilers
    • Demonstrate how to run boilers at maximum efficiency
