AEA's Mission: Energy Affordability

At a time when the need to address the impact of Global Warming and Climate Change is becoming more broadly acknowledged, the Association for Energy Affordability, Inc., (AEA) is proud to be committed to the principle of using energy efficiency to maintain affordable and healthy housing for low and moderate-income families and communities. AEA representatives are actively engaged in a broad range of activities in a variety of arenas, all designed to promote this mission.

Who We Are

AEA is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit training and technical services organization that represents and provides services to a diverse network of community-based organizations that are local subgrantees of New York State’s Weatherization Assistance Program administered by the NY State Division of Housing & Community Renewal (DHCR).

With the support of US Department of Energy funds through DHCR, AEA is a Weatherization Training Center and Technical Services Provider for the NYS Weatherization Program (WAP).

AEA is also an Affiliate of the Building Performance Institute (BPI), providing both training courses leading to BPI certification and proctoring services for BPI written and field exams.

The AEA Energy Management Training Center in the Bronx is also a NYSERDA recognized Learning Center of the Workforce Development Institute of Hudson Valley Community College.

AEA’s Bronx Weatherization Department provides direct weatherization services to income eligible residential properties in the South Bronx, and, through its Home Performance Group, AEA is a BPI Accredited Home Performance Contractor providing direct energy services under NYSERDA's Home Performance with Energy Star Program.

As a Partner in NYSERDA'S new Multifamily Performance Program, AEA's professional staff of energy engineers, project managers, trainers and technical consultants are uniquely qualified to assist building owners in navigating this new program and achieving the 20% energy savings and direct financial incentives available through NYSERDA.

In addition to these direct services, AEA’s continued NYSERDA-funded buildings research and demonstration activities provide support for developing and introducing new energy management technologies and protocols into residential buildings -- and for policies and programs that support installation of cost-effective energy efficiency measures that reduce energy waste, and promote health, safety and comfort in residential properties, from small homes to large multifamily apartment buildings.

For more than a decade, AEA has been at the forefront in addressing energy efficiency in multifamily buildings. Today building owners and managers can take advantage of a broad range of Weatherization and energy management programs and services offered by the AEA network.

With administrative offices in midtown Manhattan, and an 11,000 sq.ft. energy services and Energy Management Training Center in the South Bronx, AEA is accessible to the local communities it serves, as well as the broader professional community statewide and nationally with which AEA collaborates.
